Trade Pulse Ep. 71 | Connecting Order Flow Trends To Price Movement

Jim Batchelder shows how Trade Pulse's Power Inflow signal caught a turn in SOXL: after early selling, retail momentum and institutional flow flipped positive around 10 a.m., and the ETF climbed about 5% within an hour.

Trade Pulse Ep. 71 | Oct 29, 2026 — Connecting Order Flow Trends To Price Movement

Episode aired: Oct 29, 2026 | Runtime: ~8 minutes | Host: Jim Batchelder (Trade Pulse)

Price tells you what happened; order flow can tell you why. In this short episode, Jim Batchelder uses one example — the leveraged semiconductor ETF SOXL — to show how Trade Pulse connects shifts in buying and selling to the price moves that follow.

He starts by explaining the chart. Any stock or ETF can be pulled up from the search bar, and every line updates minute by minute. The white line is the price. The light-blue line is large-deal flow: orders of $100,000 or more, usually institutions such as hedge funds and mutual funds. Green and red shading show momentum flow, the intraday sentiment of retail traders; green means buying is outweighing selling, red the opposite. A vertical green bar marks a Power Inflow signal, Trade Pulse’s AI-driven alert for a significant positive shift in order flow. The platform issues only about 10 to 15 of these a day.

Then the example. In the first hour of trading, SOXL was choppy and slipping, with large-deal flow falling and momentum flow in the red: selling on both the retail and institutional side. A little after 10 a.m. Eastern, a Power Inflow signal appeared. Almost immediately, momentum flow flipped to green, and the large-deal line reversed and climbed sharply over the next hour. The price followed, rising from about $100 to about $105 — roughly 5% in an hour.

Jim’s point is that following order flow in real time shows what’s happening underneath the price: what retail traders and institutions are buying, and whether there’s real strength behind a move.

He also highlights that users with accounts at Trade Pulse’s supported brokerage partners can connect them to the platform, view balances and positions, and trade directly, so they can act on the data without switching screens. Key takeaways:
– Large-deal flow tracks institutional orders of $100,000 or more.
– Momentum flow shows real-time retail sentiment.
– Power Inflow signals flag sharp positive shifts in order flow.
– Brokerage integration lets you act on signals in one place.

This episode is educational and not a recommendation.
