Trading Live With Bubba Ep. 352 A Sharp Selloff, Five Put Spreads, and Waiting for the Rebound Rally

On a sharp down day, Bubba trades gold and crude oil intraday with break-even stops, sells put spreads in Circle, MP Materials, Palantir and SPY, passes on trades with too much risk, and warns that a sharp rebound rally may come and could be a selling opportunity.

The market is falling hard in episode 352, and the VIX is spiking. Bubba thinks the move is too extended in the short term and expects a strong rally at some point, so he trades carefully: a couple of intraday futures trades, a set of put spreads sold into the drop, and a list of trades he deliberately skips.

The day trades come first. He buys gold on a signal, takes partial profit and moves his stop to break even, then trails it higher. Later, crude oil rallies sharply and gives a short signal in the micro contract; he takes one off at a profit, moves the stop to break even and then tightens it to lock in more.

With volatility high, premium is rich, so he scans for put spreads. The ones he sells:
– Circle (CRCL) 65/64 put spread for $0.40, expiring the next day.
– MP Materials 32/31 put spread for $0.52.
– Palantir 152.50/150 put spread for $0.85.
– SPY 738/737 put spread for $0.38, expiring that day.

Just as important are the trades he passes on. Nvidia doesn’t offer enough credit for the risk. In QQQ and SpaceX, the available strikes are $5 apart, and he won’t take that much risk on a one-day trade. He mentions a QQQ 650/645 put spread at about $2 that he might take himself but explicitly won’t call as an official trade. He also canceled an earlier order to buy SPY puts because the market had already fallen too far to chase.

His bigger view: markets are getting extremely oversold. Even if they head lower over time, he expects a sharp “rip your face off” rally first, which he’d look to sell. Never chase moves up or down, he says; find your level and wait. Other markets he’s watching: bonds and notes near possible sells, Bitcoin near a possible buy after a reversal, and copper breaking down, which he reads as another sign of stress in AI-related trades.

Key takeaways:
– Use partial exits and break-even stops to manage intraday trades.
– High volatility makes selling put spreads more attractive, if strikes allow small risk.
– Skip trades when the strike width or credit doesn’t fit your rules.
– Don’t chase extended moves; expect sharp counter-rallies.

Trading involves risk. This episode is educational and not a recommendation.\
